Waltzing with Homestead, trusting when they said
"Who wants a website where storage is free?"
And it seemed like a good thing
at the time, but we shall see-
Who'll come a-waltzing with Homestead with me.
Signed up for their website, stored my sigs and files for free
'Twas Dell-dot-Homestead...at least initially...
When it changed to 'webpages', no one sensed catastrophe
Who thought they'd lose all their links like me!
Waltzing with Homestead, here is what they said:
"It's not our fault, nor responsibility!
Someone else should have warned you!"
(Dell said "It's a mystery!")
Who'll come a-waltzing with Homestead with me.
Lots of sigs are gone now, also Nancy's Gallery
Homestead's still there...if you pay their fee!
All that hard work invested, jettisoned so carelessly
Who is to blame for such perfidy?
Waltzing with Homestead, waltzing with Homestead
No one's at fault, no accountability
Gone is common manners
Gone is common courtesy
Who'll come a-waltzing with Homestead with me.
Explanatory note: Way back when, Dell partnered with Homestead and
offered a free web-hosting
service at "Dell.Homestead". Most of the Loonies signed up. One day, this
website- and all our files!-
just up and vanished. Co-incidently, Homestead became a paid commercial host
site at the same time.
We never did receive any explanation or apology, and all those files were lost.
Taught us all a very good
lesson about backing up files. And also about whom you could trust...
